Puttin' on the Ritz

One night a year, Katie and I get fancied up. I don a tux, and Katie wears a formal for the BYU Traditions Ball.

This is the fourth year the BYU Student Alumni has put on the ball at the Hinckley Center. As their adviser, I was quite proud of this year's planning team. It was a spectacular evening. More than 600 guests danced to a live orchestra, enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, and watched a variety of other talented acts.

Here a photo of Katie and me. While I look rather stiff, Katie looks stunning, don't you think?

Since next year will be the fifth ball, I think it might be time for me to invest in a tux instead of renting. I think Katie should also splurge on a new gown. And, a ballroom dance refresher course wouldn't hurt either. I have forgotten so much.

Teenager #2

I took the photo below of Liam on his birthday, which was well over a month ago. I'm finally getting around to posting it.

Liam has officially become a teenager. While having another teenager in the house might frighten some, I'm not too worried. Liam is pretty darn fantastic.

The braces are a new addition, and I had to beg him to give me a smile showing teeth.
There are so many reasons why Liam is such a great kid. But, here are the first thirteen that come to mind.
  1. His head is filled with amazing, strange, and random facts.
  2. He knows when people are feeling down and knows what to say or do to make them feel better.
  3. He's a very humble kid.
  4. He's a very creative writer.
  5. He's a friend to everyone.
  6. I love to listen to his jokes, even though I don't always get them.
  7. He's tons smarter than I was at that age.
  8. He's such a good example and friend to his younger brother.
  9. He's the best assistant soccer coach.
  10. I love to play board games and Mario Cart Wii with him.
  11. We share the same love for the TV show, Wipeout.
  12. He's a big Beatles fan.
  13. Even though he's a teenager, he's not embarrassed to be with his dad.
Well, there you have it. Happy birthday, Liam, and I hope you have a wonderful first year of being a teenager.

PS For his birthday, Liam wanted to visit all the Iceberg Drive Inn locations in Utah Valley (4) that give free shakes if it's your birthday. He gave it a good try, but could only finish off two shakes.

That's a good-sized shake!

    Brotherly Love

(Found written in erasable marker on the boys' bathroom mirror.*)

    Reasons I Love My  Brothers—

    1. They are hilarious.
    2. We all have so much fun together.
    3. They are my best friends.
    4. They cheer me up when I'm down.
    5. They actually laugh at my jokes.
    6. They are REALLY weird...just like me.
    7. I know they will always stick up for me.
    8. I can always be me around them.

*I would have taken a photo of the mirror. However, this was in the boys' bathroom, and things were a little less than tidy.

Utah's Next Top Model (in my humble and unbiased opinion)

Winter has gone on way too long. However, we finally had a springlike day, so I grabbed Chloe and the camera and went out to take some pictures.

I've had my camera for about a year now, and I still have tons to learn. But, I can see improvement. Plus, it really helps to have a model like Chloe. She denies it, but I still think she secretly practices her modeling poses in the mirror at home.

I plan to take a lot of photos in the near future to try and build a portfolio. Taking these photos with Chloe also makes me really excited for Vienna this summer. I can think of so many amazing photo shoot locations.

Here are some of the photos I took. Click on any you want to see larger.
